"Crazy Out There" came from a real moment in my military journey. Coming home wasn't easy. The transition, the memories, trying to find your place again. "From the battlefield to the county fair—One truth holds steady everywhere…"—that's what I felt when I first stepped back on American soil. This song is for every veteran who's made that journey, for every family that waited, for every moment of coming back to the life you left behind.
I've heard from so many veterans and active-duty members who connect with this song. That's what makes it worth it—knowing that our shared experiences, our stories, can bring us together.
We serve with honor, we live with purpose, and we tell our stories so others know they're not alone.
I'm grateful for every moment that led to this song, for every person who's been part of this journey, and for the community of veterans and military families who support each other.
This is more than a song—it's our story. And I'm honored to share it with you.
Coming Home: The Story Behind "Crazy Out There"
(Inspired by the vibe of “People Are Crazy”)Topic: A veteran reflecting on the strange, beautiful, unpredictable people he’s met through service and homecomingTone: Witty, reflective, heartfelt* Verse 1 I’ve shared a foxhole with a kid from MaineWho wrote poems in a journal to stay sane. And I knew a sergeant from TennesseeWho could pick a guitar sweeter than he could breathe.Met a medic who prayed before every fight,Then cussed God out when the shells hit at night.I’ve seen kindness in the worst damn places—Coffee shared, jokes cracked, hope on faces. Verse 2 Came home and the world felt sideways spun—Folks arguing online like a war’s being won. Some smiling big like they ain’t seen pain,Others drowning in money but starving in shame.Yet the old man at the VFW barBought me a beer and said, “Son, you’ve come far.”And the waitress slipped a note on my plate—“Thanks for your service, I hope you’re healing okay.” Pre-Chorus From the battlefield to the county fair—One truth holds steady everywhere… Chorus People are crazy out there,But damn if they ain’t trying, if they ain’t cared. In a world gone wild, full of loss and repair,We’re all just walking wounded breathing shared air.Broken, brave, messed up, aware—Yeah… people are crazy out there. Bridge But sometimes the crazy is the kind that saves—Like strangers who show up on your darkest days. * Influence: Lighthearted Americana (original)
